The training for assistance dogs is highly specialized and only very experienced trainers work directly with the dogs. however, you will be around our dogs almost every time you volunteer.. On-site: dog care and enrichment, office help, special projects, group volunteer days off-site : fostering on weekends and holidays, speakers bureau, special events, research projects from home, donation drives, and third party fundraisers. Dog care training goes over the basics of the entire dog side of paws including dog handling, volunteer and dog safety, feeding and basic cleaning. shifts available this training allows you to work our am/pm shifts as well as participate in special events..
Our volunteer weekend sitters pick up the nsd dogs every friday at the national service dog (nsd) kennel in cambridge after 3pm and return the dogs to nsd sunday between 7-8pm. the weekend is a chance for the dogs to relax with the volunteer after a long week of training subsequently dogs are not provided vests for public access.. No dog is born a service dog: he or she needs to be trained and nurtured. this is where a service dog puppy-raiser comes in. learn more about service dog puppy-raisers here. read more. Volunteer opportunities in 2015 alone, volunteers contributed a staggering 63,176 hours (the equivalent of 7.2 years!) to helping us. volunteers work side by side with staff providing care for wildlife and pets, advocating for animals, and educating others about important animal issues..
