Thoughtless Thursday The Puppy The Eggplant

She is a very curious dog!

Lets get one thing straight: I do not have a green thumb. Even though Im not the best at keeping plants alive I still love flowers, herbs, and veggies in my garden (well my moms really since she tends to it). 

The Japanese Eggplant had grown so large that we had to prop it
up on the planter so it wouldnt bring the whole plant down!

So when spring finally started rearing its head in South Florida (not that we really had a winter) I decided it was time to add some new and exciting plants to the garden. Even though there were a lot of tempting flowers to pick from I decided to try something totally different: edibles!

Since Ive been able to keep basil in the past I decided to get some of that along with parsley, rosemary, and tarragon. As I was picking out the freshest herbs to purchase I noticed an interesting plant with broad and soft leaves that had the cutest little placard with a picture of a small purple veggie on it. I had stumbled across Japanese eggplant.

decent and healthy size!

Even though I was terrified of killing my exotic little plant I decided to put my fears aside and take it home with me. As I crossed our living room with the newest additions Nailah began following, she always has to be in the know of things after all. 

Niles was initially curious of the plants, especially the eggplant, but after being shooed away so I could water it (Nailah tends to attack our hose) she seemed to forget it... that is until the veggies started growing out.

"What do you mean, leave it? I didnt touch it! Nope, thats totally
not my wet nose print on that eggplant!"

Every time we went into the garden shed go up to it and try to sniff the little purple veggies, jabbing her wet puppy nose at it. Since it was still growing I tried to keep her away, not wanting her to accidentally knock it off its stem. Even though shed leave it for the remainder of our time in the garden shed conveniently forget the next time we went out and repeat the process.

This went on and on until finally the little eggplants were ready to be harvested. I decided to let Niles witness the deed and she was extremely interested in the process. When I had finally collected the veggies I let her give them a good look over, allowing her to do what shed wanted ever since they sprouted. After leaving her wet nose print on them she decided they werent really that interesting after all and went back inside.
